BWLP December 2009 Podcast
December’s issue of Birds Who Like Pomegranate comes in two parts; a 2 disc cd set if you were to download it or find yourself as the lucky recipient of where they might be via gps locator. Yeah, we’re going there, because sometimes you need to get out and get your groove on in the name of seeing lovely places you might not have gone otherwise.
Or, maybe if you’re in East or West Oakland, you might find an autographed set at a bus stop. Play ‘em when you get back to the crib though... there’s no disclaimer on explicit lyrics- b’now!
There’s nothing but good music at our year’s end. Did we get it all? No. Is it all previous unreleased tracks? Pretty much. Some pieces are newer than others- but all the artists are some of our favorites: Finale, Scarlem D and Mr. Blue, Skyzoo, Kissey Asplund, Gwen Bunn, Presto, and 22 others.
Good dj’s tell stories in their mixes and compilations. Sometimes at a club, it’s an instance of instant- the crowd response dictating what gets pumped through the speakers, for when and how long...the ride is a product of place and time. But when it’s prepared for you in advance, like our podcasts, we get an opportunity to tell you a story. Most of the time you might not notice the tempo changes and subject matter. But believe us, it’s been quality crafted for your benefit.
For instance in part one, you might notice a perspective aimed from a season but winds and twists you through a 6 car deluge of mind. Real talk for real times. I’ll cut it out. But we just wanted you to know that for us, music is more than a show and a paper chase. For us, music is expression and the higher pursuits of life’s exactness.
We’ll be replacing Mike Dream’s birthday podcast and the Back to School edition to make room for these in our limited storage space. No worries, we’ll reprise them in the future as time permits.
Thanks for checking in.

Before Your Faculties Leave You
...believe that self-reflection can serve you well. There’s nothing like enjoying Thanksgiving with people with their own interesting bottles of perspective. And when the time comes to share the wealth and have a tasting of all outlooks, stances and reasoning- well it can get a little like Biggie’s Party and Bullshit.
I mean you find out who thinks Obama’s insistence on revamping health care is going to ruin the country- from someone like say, a lifetime nurse who is a cancer survivor. With rebuttals to confront the short term memory loss of the gradual and deliberate degradation of one said countries image and word through insufficient foreign policies as ingredients for our current political stew.
(I know, I know, I can hear all the "awwwwwww -isht"'s now..)
Or maybe it’s conversation about the social stratification across our nation that is surely finance based. Swaths of class position, determined by your annual income, inheritance, lineage and or place of origin that color our landscape from the Pacific to the Atlantic Oceanic coasts. Sound waves awash with sentences that tell of how two young black women would look a man like b.phlecksi parmella up and down at the World Trade Center, hone in on his Yale sweatshirt, and vehemently let him know, “YOU didn’t go there!”
(He’s let go of that, but sends a warm Thanks for the lovely introduction to the East, ladies.) In that simple statement, they let a young black man know so much more...
- whom was only in New York by invitation from a long gone art hero- Mr. Keith Haring.
Life most certainly has it’s challenges - our conviction is this:
No matter what your preoccupation or aspiration, if you can find the time to make sincerity, patience and introspection a priority- these practices will indubitably see you through the fires that will decimate your landscapes of safety.
The BWLP message at the dawn of 2010 is to adopt your heart with a conviction towards truth. Not a truth that so much bears your own stamp of approval- it's rarely that... but the truth of what is, right then and there- without thought immersed in pure experience-
and move with who you are- from moment to moment.
We understand that this philosophy doesn’t appear compatible with planning-
but we're convinced there’s a bigger one for each and every one of us.
BE about it y’all.
Blessings to you.

Tippet and the Angels: Thanksgiving Boy Howdy!
okay, okay, Phil Tippett- sir animation himself- crafts deftly movement endowed imagery here in our neighborhood in West Berekeley- meanwhile Hell's Angels' Sonny Barger has breezed around the way a few times on his blue saddle-boxed hog...reminding me that there's only one Bay Area.
And we're all about it.
from C.W. Nevius in today's SF Chronicle...
"On Wednesday, the local chapter of the motorcycle gang will be downtown at St. Anthony Foundation, helping the faith-based dining room prepare for its annual free Thanksgiving dinner. Are you sensing a photo op?
This all came about because, although St. Anthony's has a large and enthusiastic group of volunteers, slicing up hundreds of turkeys takes some serious elbow grease. Trying to think of an organization with muscular guys who wouldn't mind doing some carving, someone suggested the Hells Angels.
"When we reached out to get some help carving turkeys this Thanksgiving, the Hells Angels stepped up immediately and graciously," said St. Anthony's media manger, Francis Aviani.
But the dinner is still short about 1,000 pounds of turkey. If you'd like to contribute, St. Anthony's has curbside drop-off beginning at 8 a.m."
Happy Thanksgiving to you and Yours

my personal favorite was Deep Down Dopeizm from Norway

hip hop dance is in good hands world-wide.
