Peoria Mellow

hey,

just returned from a week in Peoria, Illinois- where the lightning storms are spectacular and embroidered butterfly New Era caps can be left at a relatives house from being left on an antenna to get good reception!
dang.
(throw it in the box to be shipped to Cali' with all those pristine Ebony magazines from 1968,please)
so we flew on out in search of a few good things in the world of hip-hop and came up kinda busted.
no R.A.M.A., no connects came through,... not enough time to play sleuth, i guess.

but now bust this, new Berkeley hip-hop group Make Nice now have a myspace page where you can catch a few of their latest tunes from their debut EP, Pirates!
http://www.myspace.com/hiphopmakenice

just so you know they are working out big time go make their first hometown gig a blast. stay tuned for the October date and venue.

any who,

on the graf tip- the Oakland tracks have been graced with some HOT isht that we're flashing today. have camera, will travel. AND bwlp will be have a 'greatest' printline of tees that pay homage to what's new and ill and presently up. which can be a challenge. but we're immortalizing our faves for tees' fresh for you available at our BWLPetsy shop in October: small/med/lg- white only at the moment. limited runs. hand -made. hand wash, delicates....and DOPE.

why would WE front?

and here's a fresh lyric from a bootleg of a Make Nice untitled track floating around the office...

"me..

internal beat never quit
confetti recipe adrenaline
anticipate

momentarily
within a present fit
inherently connected
physical link
exhibit

eyes closed
legs outstretched
in a sit

the meditative
explained
personal
intimate"

hmmm. that parmella kid's got flow. we think the track is called 'meditation'- rumor has it.

anyways, you all keep it moving. oh

AND we're really feeling jack these days too. who?

Favorite Song of the Week: Criminal

We've got a dj named frank niao who's doing a few good things.
And this week he turned us onto our favorite cut of the week:
Criminal by the Roots, featuring Saigon and Truck North.
The hook is a true melodious gem; audio freakin' lovely!

...And another example how a very icy hip-hop instrumental can be a great ftw lyrical cannon.
kaboom.

Inspiraton: eMC & AFTA-1

ss’me yo.
wow. one thing about emceeing...
REAL hip-hop inspires you.
Just feeling a little Organized Konfusion, Akinyele, Company Flow, and it put me in the proper state of mind to finish a cut that was screaming for me to dig deeper into my soul for the last verses. And I felt just about to throw up, but eMC pushed me over the edge.
See, if you write, you need hip hop to inspire you to go at it up a level. You have to- and it must be YOUR thing. Like graf. Anyone can learn technique: letters, fill in's, what have you...but now..
back to the music...

...’tell you what I mean.

Masta Ace has straight California love (we car culture up and down, West motha f&%n' Side), simply for his ‘Born to Roll’ cut from 1988. Dude (Duval Clear) was born same day as my son, December 4th. ‘cept M.A. was hatched back in 66’. My little 'm' blessed me in 2004.
So imagine, could YOU reinvent yourself with a straight up dope rhyme crew like EMC when YOU’RE 42 years old? (email me when you get there, son...or ‘fille’)
yo, i’m SMILIN here!
c’mon yo, COULD YOU?!
just check out ‘EMC, what does it stand for?’ or better yet, ‘On the Grind’
better yet, find and listen to Masta Ace’s ‘Born to Roll’ and see what an amazing feat it is to stay ill 20 years later.
really, it’s a feat.
That just goes to show you how down and truly fresh this cat is.

And from the sounds of talent and the status of the industry these days, folks might have to get that old, just to make hip-hop right.
But of course there are exceptions.

The great thing about the underground is that no matter what you’ve heard or think, real good music is always there- you’ve just yet to discover it.

btw, i want to give a little shine to a real tight brother who’s making some ill chill music for your lounging pleasure: AFTA 1
pick up his new stuff entitled, Aftathoughts Vol.1, if you likes...
no kidding. it’s the realness, particularly when you want to hear something fresh and not sampled and recycled....not that there’s anything wrong with that! (tee, hee)
